Objets de Désir Pop-up Launch, Bristol

Stumbling across a new and original designer is one of the great shopping pleasures, but it can all too often mean spending hours trawling through the internet to find that dreamed-of gem for your home or wardrobe – no wonder so many shoppers stick with the usual high street brands.

Rachel Drake, however, seeks to change all that – she set up online boutique Objets de Désir earlier this year to showcase fresh design talent from around the world. This new and exciting online emporium promotes the work of emerging artists, designers and makers from a variety of creative backgrounds, all of whom are newly established and making a name for themselves in the industry.

The products on the site have been hand-picked by Rachel, resulting in a beautifully curated shopping experience; every item is design-led and fashion-forward, and browsing the website is a delight. You simply won’t find such unique pieces on the high street.

I was lucky enough to pop along to the launch of the Objets de Désir pop-up shop in Quakers Friars, Bristol (you’ll find it just next to Molton Brown). I think it is pretty safe to say I wanted everything; stand-out pieces for me included the hand-crafted jewellery by Rachel Loves Bob, the super-cute illustrated badges by Alice Shields, the incredibly detailed paper sculptures by Frubean Art, and the magical illustrations by Deborah Ballinger.

This fabulous pop-up will be open until the 18th July, so make sure you head on down to have a peek. Rachel also has plans in the pipeline to open another pop-up in London sometime soon; you can keep up to date with the latest Objets de Désir news on Twitter and Facebook.

While I was browsing the wonderful wares, I was fortunate enough to bump into some lovely Bristol-based bloggers – Pandora from Petit Dora (below) and Jo and Victoria from She and Hem. I’m so pleased to have met other local bloggers and to have found two great new blogs to read in the process. I highly recommend you hop over to their sites and have a read.
